The health and wellbeing of our University community is our highest priority. Any action we take is based on the latest information and guidance from the UK government.

As well as answering some of the most frequently asked questions, the following information will clarify the University's response to the evolving situation.

What is the advice for signs, symptoms and treatment of COVID-19?

How has the University responded to government guidance?

In light of the rapidly changing situation and UK government guidance, the University has taken the following decisions on its operation:

  • All face-to-face teaching ceased on Tuesday 17 March until further notice. Students should maintain contact with a personal tutor and academic team by email and via the DLE. See our student FAQs for more information.
  • ln line with government guidance, all staff who can, are working at home from Monday 23 March until further notice.
  • While operating within UK government guidance we will continue to provide key support for students online.
  • All University business travel (UK and international) and all University planned events have been cancelled with immediate effect until Sunday 31 May.
  • All Library services, including enquiry and support, have now moved online. For more information, see the library services FAQ page.
  • The Student Hub and Faculty Offices will be open via phone and email as per normal hours. For further details see the Faculty Offices webpages and Student Hub webpages or email studentservices@plymouth.ac.uk.
  • In the event that a member of staff becomes aware of a student experiencing a mental health crisis, there remains a Duty Mental Health Worker on shift from Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm (4.30pm on Fridays), reachable in the same way via telephone on +44 (0)1752 587676. If less urgent, please email studentservices@plymouth.ac.uk. Clearly, in an emergency, 999 should be dialled although please let us know you have done this.
  • Visit the UPSU website for any updates on the SU’s contingency plans. The Students’ Union Advice Centre will remain operational online.

These are difficult and extraordinary circumstances in which we need to act decisively and responsibly until such a time that we and the country can return to normality.

Will I be updated if things change?

The University is committed to doing all it can to regularly communicate with staff and students on this issue and share any important updates. These FAQs will continue to be updated as the situation evolves.
